On the shores of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku has been known for its oil wealth for centuries. In September 2013, Azerbaijan, the Shah Deniz Consortium and European gas buyers concluded negotiations led by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) for the purchase of more than 10 bcm (350 bcf) of gas per year from stage two of the giant Shah Deniz gasfield in the Caspian. In June 2013, the Shah Deniz Consortium selected the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline as the route to deliver that gas to Europe.
The Oil & Gas Year’s first title on Azerbaijan was produced in partnership with SOCAR and features interviews with the president of SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev; the regional president of BP for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, Gordon Birrell; and Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev.
Illustrated throughout with maps and diagrams, The Oil & Gas Year Azerbaijan 2013 covers every facet of an oil industry that is a jewel in the international marketplace.
